Two generous catios, each measuring 6 ft. x 18 ft., flank the outside wall of the barn along the windows. Built by enclosing the original barn overhang, they are sheltered above from the rain by original beams and roofing, with one end featuring the original stone foundation wall of the barn. The side opposite the windows and the remaining end are enclosed by original vertical wooden posts with wire mesh and doors. The footing is 6"D pea gravel with stepping stones.
The catios feature live plants, water fountains (complete with little yellow rubber duckies), numerous perches, scratching posts, climbing ropes, hanging toys, beds, hammocks, houses, ramps, bridges, live catnip plants (seasonal), and more. Facing northeast, they receive the early-late morning sun, and remain shady during the hottest parts of the day. Often, there is a wonderful breeze through the catios.
